Careers at Primarily Undergraduate Institutions
Panelist for a career webinar with the American Astronomical Society (2023) – For many astronomers, the perfect job is found in PUIs: Primarily Undergraduate Institutions. These universities and colleges have their own cultures, needs, and goals, all centered around a focus on serving undergraduate students. But how do you find and grow your dream career at PUIs? You’re invited to watch and find out.
Unlikely Metrology
Panelist on Science Track at DragonCon (2022) – Some units of measurement are wild: banana-equivalent doses of radiation, mickeys per inch, barleycorns. What’s the weirdest units of measurement the media has used, and what’s the weirdest one we can come up with that the audience agrees still makes sense?
Exploring The Universe With Invisible Light
Guest on the Periodic Talks Podcast (2021) – Radio waves aren’t sound. They’re electromagnetic radiation and essentially a type of invisible light. Radio astronomer Nicole Gugliucci joins us to explain how it’s used to observe the formation of galaxies, black holes and other objects in outer space. Then, Gillian and Diona go on a field trip to see a meteor shower! It’s pretty much a disaster, but kind of hilarious and most definitely a blast. Stick around until the very end for an important announcement.
Electromagnetic Spectrum Fight
Panelist on Science Track at DragonCon (2021) – Science folks debate their favorite wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum far too seriously. What part of the electromagnetic spectrum will reign supreme?

Radios for Jupiter: Learning to Teach while Building a Radio Telescope
Society of Physics Students Virtual Colloquium (2020) – The RadioJOVE Project allows middle, high school, and college students to build, maintain, and use a dipole to observe Jupiter’s emissions at 20 MHz. In Spring 2019, a RadioJOVE instrument was assembled at Saint Anselm College as part of Access Academy, an afterschool program for immigrant, refugee, and underrepresented high school students in Manchester, New Hampshire, through the Meelia Center for Community Engagement. Four undergraduates with STEM backgrounds learned about the basics of radio astronomy instrumentation and observing, then led a group of 17 high school students in constructing and observing with RadioJOVE. Find out how you can join this citizen science project with your own dipole and radio observations.
Can you yeet it for science?
Panelist on Science Track at DragonCon Goes Virtual (2020) – There’s so much throwing and tossing and flinging involved in science. Find out ways in which our panelists do or would like to yeet for science! But be warned: there’s a lot of hate for the moon in this event.
