No links, but Cool Eye Candy!

I was away this weekend at a really fun wedding and with no wifi, but I did manage to write about the stupendous amazing lovely first images from ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array.

And now, the astropr0n…

ALMA shows us what’s going on in the Antennae. Click the picture for a bigger view and my Discovery blog to find out more! Do me a favor and check it out, comment, share it with your friends, etc.

Am I right in assuming that the comparatively low resolution ALMA portion will be higher rez in the future when there are enough antennas up the hill such that there is at least a modicum of sensitivity and the antennae are spread out widely across the plain? What I’m saying is, there aren’t enough antennas at this early stage to disperse them widely enough to get the resolution that we see here in the Hubble portion. The incoming flux would be too low to be useful unless the antennas are clustered tightly.
    Zat make sense?
