40 years ago today, humans saw for the first time the Earth rise over the horizon of the Moon. The astronauts of Apollo 8, Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and William Anders, because the first humans to escape Earth and actually orbit another body of the solar system. I’m a 7th (and final!) year graduate student in astronomy. My thesis has focused on radio astronomy instrumentation.
